Make This - Faux Candy

Quick and cute, this is a great way to make faux candy in whatever colors you want.  Stick the finished piece to a pin back or hair clip and you're ready to go!

Equipment and Supplies:

  • fabric or wide ribbon
  • tulle (the kind that comes on a spool is the easiest to work with)
  • styrafoam balls and a utility knife or polyester fiberfill
  • narrow satin ribbon
  • needle and thread
  • fray check
  • E6000 glue (if using styrafoam balls)

Cut the styrafoam ball in half with the utility knife.  Use extreme caution and protective gloves for this, as well as a fresh blade.  Use fiberfill instead if you're uncomfortable with this.  If you're not an adult get one to help you.

Cut a piece of ribbon or fabric 4x as long as the styrafoam ball (about 4" long if you're using fiberfill).

Cut 4 layers of tulle a bit larger than the ribbon piece.

Stack it all together, and use the needle and thread with a running stitch to gather it all up about 1 inch (or the size of the styrafoam ball) from the end and tie off.  Do the same at the other end.

Place the styrafoam into the center of the candy, use the E6000 to glue the fabric to the styrafoam but keep the glue to the back, it might bleed through your fabric.

Make two small bows from the narrow ribbon, glue those over the gathered areas.
