Make This:

Decorative Lingerie Bra Straps

I’ve already shown you one lingerie top and a very simple way to make a bra strap.  For the next lingerie project I made much more complete straps that are adjustable and fancy.  Decorated lingerie bra straps are a pretty touch for nice underthings or to replace and update the style of a tank top or slip dress.

Lingerie Strap Slides and Rings

Some type of lace or trim
Satin Ribbon (I used 5/8″|1.6cm wide ribbon)

Begin by cutting 2 pieces of lace/trim. The length of trim should be long enough to start at the top edge of the front of your garment and end over your shoulder to the back.  My pieces of lace were cut 8″ (20cm) long.  Cut 2 lengths of ribbon that are 2″ (5cm) longer than your lace/trim.

Fold the ribbon in half down the length of the ribbon piece.  Sandwich the binding edge of your trim inside the ribbon.  The ribbon should extend a small amount past the trim at one end (around 1/4″ or 0.6cm) and will extend past the trim by 1 3/4″ (4.4cm) at the other end.  Look at your trim to check if there is a front and back to the trim – if there is a difference make sure you orient the trim so you make a right and a left strap.

Sew through the layers using a straight stitch.

After stitching the trim inside the folded ribbon:

Cut 2 pieces of elastic approximately 10″ (25cm) long.

Place the rings on the long ribbon end of the straps.  Fold the ribbon to the back side of the strap and sew in place.  You can use a sewing machine for this step but I have struggled in the past with the layers slipping around under the presser foot leaving a wonky finished product.  I hand stitched the ribbon in place.  Make sure you make a left and a right strap.

Lace one end of the elastic through the holes and around the center bar of the slider.   Sew the tail off the elastic down to the elastic.  Again, you can use a sewing machine for this but I have found it much easier to sew it by hand so that is what I am doing in the photo below.

Lace the long end of the elastic through the ring and then through the two holes of the slider.

Now you have an adjustable lingerie strap to attach to whatever pretty garment item you choose!
