Gathered Stripes Knitting Pattern

This textured stripe knitting pattern alternates segments of garter stitch with segments of gathered stockinette stitch. It’s a nice way to add some visual interest without a lot of complexity. This is shown in a smooth cotton yarn which results in an almost lacy garter stitch, but the effect would be very different in a lofty wool.

The increases shown are the kind where you knit and purl into the same stitch. I find the purl part of the stitch just blends into the pattern. It also works if you choose to pick up a stitch between each knit stitch. It’s worth swatching both versions in the yarn you’re using, especially if you’re working on something large.
