Make This:

Patterned Fringe Beaded Necklace

If you’re not up for tackling the beaded ring or bracelet projects (or even if you are) this is a kinder, gentler beadwork project. I made this in about 45 minutes, and it’s a perfect canvas for all kinds of different patterns.

Supplies:

– seed beads – I used Delicas because they tend to have larger holes than other kinds of seed beads
– head pins – these are 30mm/about 1 inch
– eye pin – this is a 40mm/1.5 inch eye pin
– necklace chain/clasp
– needle nose and round nose pliers
– wire cutters

If you’re new to jewelry making “head pins” have nothing to do with sewing. They are a jewelry making supply that does not have a sharpened end, but they do have a pin head that will keep your beads from falling off!

Not all pins are created equal, so look for words like “thin” “fine” or smaller wire gauges so that they’ll fit through seed beads.

String on the beads for one of the fringes in the pattern.

Bend the end of the wire over, being careful not to break the bead at the end.

Use the round nose pliers to make a loop at the end. The loop needs to be small enough that a seed bead will not fit through it. I had to trim a little of my wire off to make a small enough loop.

Repeat this for all of your fringe strands.

Thread all of the fringe strands onto the eye pin in pattern order, placing a seed bead between each wire loop.

Make a loop at the other end of the wire.

Add the chain and clasp to make a necklace!
