This simple vertical lace stripe is a nice balance of being open without being completely bare. This swatch is worked in a smooth cotton yarn but it would be equally pretty in a soft, fluffy mohair. All of the even rows are purl so this stitch can also convert easily for pieces knit in the round.

Multiple of 6 stitches + 2

Row 1: k1 *yarn over, k2, k2tog, k2* k1
Row 2 and 4: purl
Row 3: k1 *k2, k2tog, k2, yarn over* k1
